Latest News from Tindal - Writing the City 'Writing the City' - Multi-ethnic perspectives News I Latest titles I Books I Forthcoming Titles I About us I Home News - Latest Headlines All submissions for 'Writing the City' have now been passed to the editors, Leone Ross and Yvonne Brissett, and they are busy sifting, selecting and shaping the anthology, which will be published in October 2001. Over 70 stories were received from writers from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many people submitted stories produced during the Tindal Street Press/Millennibrum workshops which ran throughout summer 2000 at three different venues in the city. The workshops were a great success, both for the anthology and for writing in Birmingham. As Uma Waide, a workshop participant, said: 'I found the workshops run by Tindal Street Press very helpful and useful. They helped me with my own writing in ways that I had not developed on my own. I found the tutors extremely supportive and informative. They listened very well, and as a result have given more thoughtful and helpful feedback than I have received in previous workshops and creative writing courses I have attended. I ended the workshops with a strong sense that there was much more to be learned from this group and would be very happy to see them continue.' The Final Day Workshop, held on Saturday 28 October at the Library Theatre was particularly interesting as it brought together writers from all three classes, and gave everyone a chance to mix and network. 'Masterclasses' on different aspects of writing - from 'drama as inspiration' to 'self-editing' - were held, giving everyone the opportunity to develop their skills. During the day, editor Yvonne Brissett talked to people about their writing and their concerns, and the day's final session was a wide-ranging discussion about writing, ethnicity in writing and access to publishers and other key organisations. We are confident that the forthcoming Tindal Street Press anthology will address some of these concerns and give a much needed platform to new and interesting writers from Birmingham's multi-ethnic communities. previous news item Copyright 2000 Tindal Street Press [email protected]
