About

Tindal Street Press grew from Birmingham's writing community with a belief that literary excellence does not depend on a metropolitan postcode.

Tindal Street Press was established to bring ambitious fiction from Birmingham and the English regions to a national readership. Its list mixed novels, short stories, new writers and prize-recognised work, while keeping a strong connection to the city that produced it.

Regional, not parochial

The press championed writing with a centre of gravity outside London and the south-east. That did not mean limiting the reach of the books. The aim was the opposite: precise regional voices could speak to readers everywhere.

A community that became a list

The press developed from local writing activity and built a catalogue that included crime, literary fiction, multicultural anthologies and short-story collections. Browse the archive to meet the writers, titles and projects that shaped its identity.
